Teenagers Are Dropping Facebook Like Bad Habit, Spending More Time On Instagram, Snap & Youtube

A few years ago, Facebook was a staple for most teens, even if they also used other social media like Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat.

Now, it seems Facebook has really fallen in popularity among the younger crowd. It’s probably too many of those fake news articles for their moved on liking.
Facebook

According to a new study from the Pew Research Center, focusing on teens and their social media use, it seems teens have largely moved on from Facebook to other alternatives. In a similar study released in 2015, Pew found that 71 percent of 13 to 17-year-olds said they used Facebook, while only around half used Instagram and 41 percent used Snapchat.

This year instead, just 51 percent of teens say they use Facebook, even as YouTube, Instagram and Snapchat have jumped in popularity.

At least 85 percent of all US teens say they use YouTube, while 72 and 69 percent expressed their loyalty to Instagram and Snapchat respectively. Others like Twitter and Tumblr have remained largely unchanged in the past few years.

But that’s just all the teens that say they use each of these platforms. When asked which ones they use the most, 35 percent said they use Snapchat the most, while 32 percent voted for YouTube and 15 percent for Instagram. In comparison, Twitter, Reddit, and Tumblr polled less than 10 percent each.

Facebook

Strangely enough, will Facebook seems to have become less popular, that’s larger thanks to rich folk. Three out of ten teens in the US are well off compared to the rest. They correspondingly also avoid Facebook, while those from lower income households gravitate towards it. Even among the most popular site votes, 22 percent of lower income teens say they use Facebook the most, with only 4 percent among the rich community.

Even gender plays a difference here, with teen girls reportedly more likely to use Snapchat the most, while boys are more likely to have YouTube as their go-to. The study was conducted with 1,058 parents and 743 teens between March 7th and April 10th of this year.
